The Two Certifications on Every SilkenFrame Artwork
Authenticity is not a claim we ask you to take on trust. Every artwork carries two official Government of India certifications, each verifying something different.
Silk Mark
Issued by the Central Silk Board, Government of India. It certifies that the fabric is 100% pure natural silk, not art silk, polyester or a blend. As a Silk Mark Organisation of India member, we affix the official Silk Mark hologram, which carries a unique serial number.
Handloom Mark
Issued by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It certifies that the fabric was woven by hand on a traditional loom, not on a powerloom or by machine. This is what separates genuine handloom work from mass-produced imitations.
The two marks answer different questions. Silk Mark tells you what the fabric is made of. Handloom Mark tells you how it was made. A piece can be pure silk yet powerloom-woven, or handwoven yet blended. Only both together confirm handwoven pure silk.

How to Check the Certifications Yourself
- ✅ Look for the hologram: the Silk Mark label is a holographic sticker with a unique serial number. It cannot be photocopied or reprinted.
- ✅ Verify the serial number: Silk Mark labels can be checked against the Silk Mark Organisation of India register.
- ✅ Check both marks are present: pure silk alone does not mean handloom, and handloom alone does not mean pure silk.
- ✅ Ask where it was woven: genuine Kanjivaram silk comes from Kanchipuram, not from nearby weaving regions.
What Makes Kanjivaram Silk Authentic?
Kanjivaram silk is a heritage fabric known for its unmatched quality, durability, and luxurious finish. Recognized with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, authentic Kanjivaram silk can only be produced in Kanchipuram, where traditional techniques have been passed down for generations.
Beware of Imitations
Not all silk you find in Kanchipuram is authentic Kanjivaram. Many designs are woven in nearby regions like Arni, Salem, or Dharmavaram, which, while beautiful, do not match the strength, richness, or quality of true Kanjivaram silk.
