When Gold Zari Meets Light

24 October 2026

Peacock head and neck woven in turquoise and black silk on a shimmering gold zari ground

See gold zari catch the light in close-ups of our handwoven Kanjivaram silk wall art, woven on a handloom by master weavers in Kanchipuram. Never printed.

Stand close to a piece of framed silk wall art and turn your head a little. The gold zari catches the light, the silk shifts colour, and you see that every line was woven, not printed. A photo of the whole piece can't show you this. These close-ups can.

Woven or Printed? Watch the Gold Zari

Printed gold is flat ink. Gold zari is a thread, so its shine shifts as you move. Our guide on how to check genuine Kanjivaram silk wall art shows what else to look for.

How Each Piece Is Made

Each piece is woven on a handloom by master weavers in Kanchipuram, in pure Kanjivaram silk with gold zari. The weaver works the loom and throws every shuttle by hand; an XL piece takes about 2 days on the loom. It is woven as an artwork from the first thread, never cut from saree fabric, and certified with the Silk Mark and Handloom Mark.
